Events: Paperworld Trends 2008/2009

A feast for the senses
At the Paperworld Trend Show you could familiarise yourself with the new colours, designs and materials for the season ahead. Here you could see and experience the trendiest products for next year.

Gunnar Frank, international designer and trend researcher, develops the trends of tomorrow exclusively for Messe Frankfurt. Frank has defined three style trends for the 2008/2009 season:

  • Masculine
  • Feminine
  • Kiddy

Each group comprises both classic and modern designs and differentiates between boy-style and girl-style details.

Masculine - classic Masculine - classic
"Masculine" is characterised by warm, natural, earthy colours. In the “classic” segment, these colours appear in plains, stripes and checks. This style trend brings together high-quality plastic products. Velour and faux leather is just as much a part of this trend as Bakelite-look surfaces and gold, brass and woollen textile-element trims.
Masculine - modern Masculine - modern
Office utensils made of polished stainless steel, aluminium, rubber or faux rubber and fine-grained leather take centre stage in the modern interpretation of "Masculine". Geometric designs, patchwork patterns and spotted surfaces dominate here.
Feminine - classic
"Feminine" features soft pastel and aquarelle colours. The “classic” range is characterised by figures and elements from antiquity. Products like photograph albums and sketchbooks are richly embellished and decorated with floral embroidery. Bound in cotton or linen weaves they coordinate with the lightweight textiles and the handcrafted. Velour leather, faux semi-precious stones and ivory form the focus of this style trend.

Feminine - classic
Feminine - modern
Contrary to the classic range, the focus of “Feminine - modern” is on glamorous, glossy look, iridescent materials. Pens with mother-of-pearl and mirror finishes also form part of this. Spotted design address books, stripe patterned envelopes, paste gemstone embellished product detail and a matte sheen, pearl design bring a spring-like quality and a touch of playfulness to the feminine product world.

Feminine - modern
Kiddy - boy Kiddy - boy
Gunnar Frank has named the third trend world "Kiddy". This trend world features products in strong, bold colours. The style trend "boy" defines products, which express adventure and experience - exercise books and calendars feature motifs like dinosaurs, magicians or rockets and aeroplanes. Here, the design hallmark is the style of the 1950s, with soft materials predominantly used.
Kiddy - girl Kiddy - girl
The look of the “girl” range is influenced by the romance of the sixties. Fantasies, film stars and flowers are symbolic of this style. These symbols are expressed as heart or animal patterns on poetry albums and diaries. Parallels exist with the feminine trend world, although the materials used are lighter and softer.
Trend Show
In a joint venture with Messe Frankfurt, the bora.herke style agency stages Frank’s trend concepts at the Paperworld trend show. Trade visitors were able to see the trends for 2008/2009 in a special exhibition area in Hall 6.1, together with practical ideas on how to put together and present a trend-driven product collection in their own store.

Trend Tours
Guided tours through the trend show were on offer every day at Paperworld, departing from the trend show area in Hall 6.1, stand C90 at 11.00 a.m. and 3.00 p.m.
